Cardiac Workshop LUMC - 2010

Data workshop session: July 1/2 & October 7/8

Background

Multidetector computer tomography (MDCT) is gaining widespread acceptance as a first-line modality for imaging the cardiovascular system. Both 16-row as well as 64-row MDCT technology is now installed in many hospitals for whole body imaging. CT angiography of large and mediumsized vessels is routinely applied. The latest technology allows detailed visualization of the heart and coronary arteries. Improved spatial resolution, electrocardiographic gating, and other technical advances are underway to provide a comprehensive tool for assessing ischemic heart disease.

The purpose is to acquire a working knowledge of current 64-row MDCT for cardiovascular imaging and also the latest developments in dynamic volume CT (Toshiba Aquilion ONE) will be discussed. The workshop provides state-of-the-art lectures on the basics of current MDCT technology as well as current clinical applications. This workshop is given in English language and is limited to a small number of students to enhance interaction between speakers and audience.
In addition, hands-on training at state-of-the-art Toshiba CT scanners will be provided for small groups of students. This includes understanding the scan procedure and the set-up for cardiovascular imaging. Furthermore, protocols will be discussed as well as the interpretation of images using hands-on training at Vitrea workstations using the latest software.

Who should attend:
Radiologists, cardiologists and other physicians with an interest in cardiovascular CT, residents in training, technologists, and physicists. The course is aimed at introducing basic technical aspects and skills as well as clinical interpretation of cardiovascular CT.
