"Environmentally conscious" product design is a key challenge for Medical System manufacturers. In developing products, we conduct a product assessment across their life cycles from procurement, manufacturing, logistics and use to disposal and recycling in order to conduct product development and reduce the environmental impacts on the global environment.
Whereas product assessment is used to confirm the minimum necessary environmentally conscious requirements for product development, Voluntary Environmental Standards for Products have been established in Toshiba to create highly environmentally friendly products and those products complying with such Standards are certified as environmentally conscious products (ECPs). These were established as the industry’s highest level of environmental performance standards in 2005.
To create more environmentally conscious products, those products for which the factors are improved and which are industry-leading eco-products achieving major environmental performance are called “Excellent ECPs.” While ECPs aim to boost the environmental performance of the entire product lineup, the aim of Excellent ECPs is to attain the industry’s highest level of environmental performance.
Both the Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT scanner and the Aplio MX Ultrasound system are rewarded ECP.
Aplio MX: The system is designed to minimize the environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle. Up to 50% reduced main body volume compared to other systems, low energy consumption and the consistent use of electronic documentation and option software licensing help save valuable resources in manufacturing, in packaging and shipping, during daily use and at the end of its life when the product is 
dismantled and recycled. Some of the many reasons why Aplio MX was awarded the ECP mark for outstanding environmentally conscious products.

products to be awarded as Excellent ECP! And to bring it one step futher: it has been selected as one of the Toshiba Group's most environmentally conscious products, leading the industry in environmental efficiency.
Impact on the environment is further reduced by extending the useful life. Controlled refurbishment processes are applied to carefully selected systems which then form the basis for the Secondlife line of refurbished products.
